Adjacent to Chitwan National Park in Nepal's southern Terai zone, Tharu Lodge offers the perfect blend of a quiet wilderness retreat fused with local cultural encounters. Built in the longhouse style of Tharu architecture, the lodge is nestled into lush forest overlooking idyllic Terai landscapes. Dine al fresco under the shade of a mango tree, take a refreshing dip in Tharu's pool, play a spot of tennis, watch elephants, or stretch your legs on a jungle walk. We offer a 2-night, 3-day extension or a 3-night, 4-day extension (call for details).

Itinerary
Transfer to the Kathmandu airport in the morning and fly by light aircraft to Bharatpur (about a 20-minute flight), where you are met by a Tharu Lodge representative for a scenic drive to the property (about 1.5 hours). Enjoy lunch on arrival and the afternoon to settle in and explore the grounds or enjoy a swim in the pool. After tea and biscuits later in the afternoon, we suggest a stroll to the village with one of our naturalists before returning to the lodge for dinner. Overnight at Tharu Lodge...LD
After breakfast (usually fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, and bacon), you can choose your day's activities. Enjoy a gentle boating safari down the peaceful Narayani River, keeping an eye out for marsh muggers or the endangered gharial crocodile resting on the banks. You can also stretch your legs on a jungle walk, visit the Tiger Tops-Swiss Air Primary School, one of Tharu Lodge's sites of community engagement, or take a walk into the surrounding villages with a local guide to experience rural life. This morning after a leisurely breakfast, your luggage will be loaded aboard one of our vehicles ready to transfer you to Bharatpur airport in time for your scheduled light aircraft flight back to Kathmandu, where you are met for transfer to the hotel...B

What the Trip is Like
All activities are optional and include guided jungle walks, a gentle river safari by boat, a chance to interact with elephants, and a visit to the local school. Accommodations are in comfortable en suite rooms with ceiling fans and mosquito netting for the beds, with meals served in a dining room or al fresco in the evening around a roaring fire.
