NEW TRIP
Explore Spain’s Balearic Islands the WT way, with hikes in Mallorca’s craggy mountains and along Menorca’s spectacular protected coasts. On Mallorca, we’ll hike the clifftop trails of the Serra de Tramuntana as well as the magnificent Archduke’s Path, savoring the sea views all the way. We’ll also explore charming Sóller as well as Pollença, with its lively Sunday market. On Menorca, a tranquil realm due to the island’s designation as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, we’ll hike the north coast, visit a prehistoric archaeological site, sample the thriving wine scene, and roam the cobbled lanes of Ciutadella and lovely Mahón, the capital, perched high above the largest natural harbor in the Mediterranean.
Arrive: Palma, Mallorca
Depart: Mahón, Menorca
From Palma, we head to a mountain village for lunch, then hike an ancient stone path directly to our hotel in a village on the rocky coastline of the Tramuntana. Walking right from our hotel the next morning, we descend a trail to the seaside town of Banyalbufar, then go olive-tasting in the hill town of Valldemossa.
A fantastic hike bring us across the Archduke’s Path, one of the most stunning walks on the island, with breathtaking Mediterranean views. For a change of scenery, we’ll head down to the coast at Sóller to kayak in crystal-clear waters.
After hiking over the Puig de l’Ofre Pass (3,300'), with spectacular 360-degree views from the top, we stop in at a local vineyard for wine tasting. Our hotel is in Pollença, a scenic Mallorcan town of honey-colored stone, and we’ll visit the Sunday market.
Ferrying to Menorca, we visit the charming Mediterranean town of Ciutadella, explore a Bronze Age ruin from the Talayotic culture, and enjoy coastal walks from our agriturismo.
In Albufera des Grau Natural Park, a coastal UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, we hike along freshwater lagoons to the beach. Our final day finds us cruising the spectacular harbor in Mahón, Menorca’s capital, by traditional wooden sailboat, with opportunities for snorkeling. Depart on Day 12.
